Just today, an American delegate came to our office. I had a small conversation with her and man… she was cribbing to death for India… Here are few things she had to say about India… (This is her first visit to India by the way)..
“Hey… I had thought houses here would be those broken ancient ones… but man… India has progressed quite a bit!” (This was the only good part!)
“But you know the other day I was waiting at a traffic signal, red lights were on. Most of the vehicles behind me were honking their horns intermittently. What on earth would that solve?? The traffic lights do not measure the intensity or loudness of noise and turn green for the side that has been the loudest… It was as if they were competing for ‘Who is the Loudest amongst themselves!!’ ”
“Delhi is a huge challenge.. rickshaws, bicycles, trucks and cars barely missing running over each other, near-naked toddlers stumbling along beside traffic, amputees crawling on the ground begging for food and money, so many homeless dogs roaming around, air so thick with smog and exhaust that it looked and smelled like the whole city was on fire.”
And then she wanted to visit the malls in Gurgaon, and for that she had to call up a mate in States, who had visited India earlier, to confirm if it was safe to go to the malls alone!
Yeah… this is where we stand!
