Saw this movie on Saturday. Must say.. A very very well made movie! All the characters have done full justice to their roles.
I personally was fascinated by the dynamic between the popular Gandhi and his son who tries time and time again to impress his father and live upto the family name, only to find himself being pulled further and further away.
It brings out the fact that everything is not black and white. Even saints like Gandhiji have committed mistakes. And even sinners like Harilal have their side to the story; it teaches empathy for those we are likely to cast off as wasters.
The scene which touched me the most was when Harilal meets his parents in a drunken state on the railway station and gives an orange to his mother. Then the whole crowd is shouting ‘Mahatma Gandhi Zindabad’ and Harilal alone shouts ‘Ma Kasturba Zindabad’.
And the best part was the ’silence’ which emerged at the end of the movie, when the lights came on… This is something I have never experienced before. It just left everyone speechless!!!
I feel this movie must be at least nominated for Oscars (Or may be even get one!) A must-watch!!
