You live only once, but if you do it right, once is enough!

Today I woke to a beautiful blanket of breeze…Life was pretty gloomy since sometime. My sloth had reached the pinnacle! Thankfully my work hours have changed (I got promoted…Yiiippeeee!!) and I have started working in the morning once again. I am feeling so different, so vigorous and so spirited once again! I feel as if I have got back something very dear which I had lost.

Is not every life a script in itself, with no pre-ordained formulas and ways to success… so what was I searching for?… was I after a mirage?….was I realizing what was in my hands while I was searching the whole world for the ‘reason’ for my happiness?!

Why not enjoy life as it comes…. And to be exactly precise.. my life has not given me many reasons to complain… let me not give myself reasons to fret over things… I m enjoying life today… or should I say I am realizing I am enjoying it?!

A kind soul in my office told me about a concept known as ‘START, STOP or CONTINUE’. He kinda nailed down that it really helps…

Hmmmm… it seemed really interesting and I thought I’ll apply this on ME, based on my learnings from the past. Also, at regular intervals, based on the results, I will repair the list..

I think I should,
START
– speaking vociferously.
– being more sensible in my actions and decisions.
– improving on money management.
– being more active, at least for the tasks I enjoy doing.
– implementing this list as soon as possible.

STOP
– expecting.
– breaking my head on small issues as life is too short!
– indulging in ‘bad habits’.
– being slapdash.
– thinking ONLY about myself and do some small compromises to show care for those who care for me.

CONTINUE
– smiling.
– living life to the fullest!
– writing, which may mean blogging, writing poetry or whatever!
– convalescing.

So that’s my list… I hope I can follow it religiously.. But even otherwise, there’s always another time to START, STOP or CONTINUE!

Just yesterday, I had an argument with someone as to what is the English synonym for ‘Samajhdar’… I said ‘Intelligent’ and he said ‘Sensible’. Out of my curiosity today I actually went on to check it on an English-Hindi dictionary on internet and Gosh!! It says ‘samajhdar’ stands for ‘Intelligent’ and ‘Sensible’ means ‘Buddhimaan’… (And that ‘Gosh’ because this person is supposedly very sensible and intelligent and samajhdar and buddhimaan and is ‘always’ right!)….

Links to the proof: http://www.shabdkosh.com/en2hi/intelligent
http://www.shabdkosh.com/en2hi/sensible

Now this made me think what is Intelligence? Is it a measure of one’s ability be logical? Is logic the most important (if not the only) factor out of those which make up this property called Intelligence? Or are there other factors? If yes, what are they?

Certainly, knowledge is not an indication of intelligence. Knowledge is important to succeed in today’s world, but what about the future? Imagine every person in the world connected to the internet with a wireless chip in their mind such that the chip directly interfaces with the brain. In such a world, knowledge will be a petty commodity. So I don’t know the capital of Poland, big deal, I’ll just google it. [Personally, I have a pet peeve with ‘knowledge’, I guess since I myself have a bad memory]

Is wisdom a part of intelligence? Or is it that you become wise only if you had been intelligent for a while? Of course, experience plays a big part in achieving wisdom. You become wise only after you have seen the world, but does being wise make you more intelligent?

Are creative people necessarily intelligent? Or are intelligent people necessarily creative/original?What about witticism? And eloquence? People who can speak better are probably also better in organizing their thoughts. Are they more intelligent than otherwise similarly capable people with not so good spoken abilities?

Isn’t intelligence just a measure of the capacity/capability of your brain? Given the same complexity, if your brain was bigger, wouldn’t you be more intelligent? In that sense, is it a measure of how fast you can compute (in a general sense, not just mathematical)? So, is it like the processing power of a computer (adding the RAM)? Then, is your memory like the hard disk of a computer..

(Quite an intelligent/sensible post…huh?!)

Well… God made us see and experience quite a lot in ‘His own country”!!

We started around 6.30 in the morning on 23rd December, after waiting for half an hour for the cab we had booked to go to the airport (Btw the office of that taxi service is just across the road!). The flight was scheduled at 8AM and thanks to the fog and the late cab, we were almost sure that we won’t reach on time and so we were praying that the flight gets delayed… Around 7.30 Sam got a call from Indian Airlines (which is quite commendable!) that the flight has been rescheduled for 9.30 , and here comes a sigh of relief! Reached airport around 7.45.. flight got further delayed and finally we took off around 11.30.. Reached Kochi at 4.30 and Didi (Sam’s sis)’s home around 6PM. Didn’t have the courage to do anything but booze that day!!!

Next day we headed for Alleppy Backwaters with Didi, jijaji and their kids… hired a boat after paying 3 bottles of rum (yeah… thats a common mode of payment there) and some cash too.. But the ride was worth it… Pictures should say the rest!

Next day was Christmas.. preferred to stay at home as it was too crowded outside.. 4 of us played Pictionary.. had great fun despite all those arguments between the partners! Boozed thru the night and crashed!

Next day was the Family Day for navy officers…We also got the privilege to attend it , courtesy Jijaji! 8 of navy ships were sailing together presenting all the stunts they do in time of crisis.. It was a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience! After that went for a speed boat ride but couldn’t get one as all were busy with shooting for some movie… wandered around… finally caught hold of a massage clinic.. Sam and me got an Ayurvedic massage done.. was quite relaxing but nothing grand!!

Dec. 27, we booked a half day trip of Kochi by a boat.. got to see some good places… saw a Synagogue for the first time in life… then both of us drove down to Cherai Beach.. had great fun there (anyway.. I love beaches)!!

Next day, went to Atthirapally waterfalls with didi and kids. The force with which the water was roaring on the mountains was awesome! While coming back we took a ferry to make our car cross the Backwaters… they say it saved us 18 kms (God only knows how!!) Went to market while coming back.. Stopped at the ATM and the guard standing outside noticed that some smoke was coming out of the car bonnet… assumed it to be lack of coolant… poured some water in it and came back home.

Dec. 29 we had booking in Munnar… that’s a Hill Station around 140kms ahead of Ernakulam (the place in Kochi where we stayed). Had filled the coolant in the morning to avoid any problems.. But just after an hour or so we could see the smoke again…realized that actually it was the radiator fan that was not working.. managed to find a local mechanic… he changed some damn fuse and assured its perfectly fine now! Just when we started sinking in that relaxation, there came the smoke again, and this time accompanied by some weird noises from the bonnet… tried to manage somehow for sometime… just wanted to reach Munnar somehow.. but just about 20 kms from Munnar, it got really bad.. and this time it was scary.. We stepped out of the car immediately as we thought it might just even burst! Again somehow found some local mechanic who just cooled down the radiator by pouring tons of water in it… he advised us to stop after every 5 kms to cool down the radiator till we reach Munnar… Did that and finally reached Munnar.. took the car to a Maruti Service Station and got it fixed.. Luckily left the car at the station for a wash.. and that’s when he realised that it was not actually fixed… the radiator was damaged.. got all that repaired/replaced and got back the car next day… By the way, the club we stayed in—the High Range Club is an awesome property. It has its own golf course, a helipad, baskeball court, lawn tennis court, lounge, etc. etc… Next day we just relaxed at the club… just went out for a stroll around lunch!

Dec. 31 we checked out and headed back to Ernakulam.. Went to a beautiful place called ‘Top Station’ on our way.. Reached Ernakulam around 6. Then started getting ready for the New Year Navy Bash… was good fun! There were some sidey competitions going on and I won the ‘Ms High Heels’ title!! Slept around 2.30, had to get up early in the morning as our flight back to Delhi was scheduled at 10AM.

Got up on time, checked with the airlines and got to know the flight has been rescheduled for 8.30PM. Reached airport around 8PM and got to know that this flight will be terminated in Mumbai, but had no other wiser option but to go to Mumbai… The flight finally took off around 9.30PM and reached Mumbai around 11.30 PM. Around 1 AM we get to know that accommodation has been provided to us at Hotel Mirador near the airport… and here comes some relief! We had to reach back the airport around 8 AM. Got up at 7, had breakfast and left for the airport. For hours and hours we had to stand in queues just to get that trifling boarding pass! Indian Airlines supposedly arranged for a special flight for passengers who had to go to Delhi… took off around 3.30 and landed in Delhi around 6 after waiting for an hour for the runway to get clear. Luckily the cab we had booked to go home was still there, reached home around 8.30… never thought coming back home could be so relieving. I felt as if I am rescued from some hijacked plane…

So that’s how it went… but all in all, a great trip with great adventures in the ‘God’s own country’….

Cheers 2007!

There goes another year. I almost feel that 2006 has gone by in a blink of an eye! So many things happened in a year, it doesn’t justify to write it all down here (plus I can’t recall all the things! Haha) but some highlights of the year are;

Jan – First Sem exams of MIT.. was busy in that! Also got a new friend in life… who is apparently my Bhabhi now.

Feb – Manya(my niece) turned one! Was a big day for me too… I was so excited… Blew off money like crazy… but trust me… She was looking like a DOLL!

March – Got a proposal for marriage like so many others but somehow this one sounded different and so I considered it …. Was very stressed out mentally in this month due to many reasons! By the end of this month… I had chosen the person I wanted to get married to!

April – 1st of this month I met that person(I mentioned above) for the first time (though we had talked earlier and already decided to get married… yeah.. without even meeting each other!). 15th of this month was The Big Day… I got married. Hey.. by the way has it been just 15 days when I said I met him for the first time?!… Yeah man, it all happened in just 15 days!!! Later we went to Vaishno Devi and then for our honeymoon to Shimla, Shoghi and Naldehra.

May – Came back from honeymoon. My brother was to get married on 15th of this month so got busy with that! Also, this was the month I started off with my blog ( I always wanted to since I had seen my hubby’s blog).

June – Nothing major happened this month… got to learn a lot in this time because suddenly there were so many responsibilities to face, so many expectations to meet! But thanks to my hubby for being so so supportive. Also, I was desperately looking for a job during this period as I was fed up of sitting at home! 9th was Sam’s B’day.. had a blast! Invited some frnds and boozed all night and the following night too!

July – A very stressful month to begin with… both mentally and physically.. for reasons that I can’t mention here! Got the job. Joined e-Funds International on the 19th. For this I had to leave around 6 in the morning… getting up early was another new funda to me… had never done that before in life!

August – 1st was my b’day.. Got sweet surprises from my hubby! The day went good! Apart from this, nothing major happened.

September – Took up a bad habit for some reason!

October – Went to Dhanaulti with hubby… awesome place (every nature lover must go there once!)

November – Festive season… My first fast for my hubby on Karva Chauth (By the way, he also reciprocated… even he fasted for me!).. Also.. my first Diwali after marriage… bursted crackers after so many years! Also I changed job in this month… Left e-Funds and joined Copal Partners on 20th.

December – Went on a vacation to Kerala on 23rd… this one too is an awesome place! Though had some bad experiences also on the trip like car getting stuck in the middle of the road and getting stuck on the Mumbai airport because of bad weather in Delhi ( Will give the details in my next post)… But all in all it was a great trip ( For me at least… donno about my hubby coz he has been cribbing ever since we came back for the bad experiences… forgetting the good ones!)

Well, that’s it I guess! So here’s to another prosperous, successful and great year… Cheers!
